New Construction HVAC Done Right From the Ground Up
When you’re building a new home or commercial property, the HVAC system isn’t just another line item on the blueprint. It’s the backbone of comfort, air quality, and energy efficiency for decades to come. At Mel's Heat & Air Inc., we partner with builders, general contractors, architects, and property owners throughout Turlock, CA and surrounding areas to design and install heating and cooling systems that perform flawlessly from day one and continue to deliver year after year.
New construction presents a unique opportunity that retrofit projects simply can’t match. When ductwork, refrigerant lines, electrical connections, and equipment placement are planned before walls go up, we can engineer a system that’s perfectly matched to the structure. There are no compromises forced by existing framing, no awkward duct runs squeezed into unsuitable cavities, and no oversized equipment trying to make up for poor design choices. We get to do it right the first time.
Our New Construction Process
Every successful new construction HVAC project begins long before the first piece of equipment arrives on site. We start with a thorough review of the building plans, performing detailed Manual J load calculations to determine exactly how much heating and cooling capacity each zone requires. Square footage alone is never enough. We account for window placement and glazing, insulation values, ceiling heights, orientation, local climate patterns, and even how the family or business intends to use the space.
From there we move into Manual D duct design, sizing every trunk and branch line for proper airflow, balanced static pressure, and quiet operation. Manual S equipment selection follows, where we match air handlers, condensers, and furnaces to the calculated loads rather than guessing or oversizing “just to be safe.” Oversized equipment short-cycles, fails to dehumidify properly, and wastes energy. We’ve seen too many homes suffer from sloppy design, and we refuse to add to that statistic.
Coordination With Builders and Trades
New construction is a choreographed effort, and HVAC sits at the intersection of framing, electrical, plumbing, insulation, and drywall. We’ve built our reputation on showing up when we say we will and finishing our rough-in work on schedule so the next trade isn’t held up. Our crews coordinate directly with site supervisors to handle chase locations, soffit drops, mechanical room layouts, and exterior penetrations cleanly and efficiently.
We service, repair, and install all makes and models, and that experience matters in new construction too. Whether the architect has specified American Standard, Mitsubishi ductless systems, Bryant high-efficiency equipment, or Mr. Cool components, we know how to install each brand to the manufacturer’s exact specifications so warranties stay intact and performance meets the rated specs.
What Sets Our Installations Apart
There’s a difference between equipment that’s installed and equipment that’s installed correctly. We focus on the details that other contractors skip when they’re rushing to the next job.
- Properly sealed and insulated ductwork using mastic and approved tapes, not just foil tape that fails within a few years
- Refrigerant line sets routed with proper slope and support to protect compressor longevity and prevent oil traps
- Commissioning and airflow balancing at every register so each room gets the design airflow it was engineered to receive
We also pull permits, schedule inspections, and stand behind our work with documentation the homeowner can keep on file. When the final walk-through happens, we want the buyer to feel confident that the mechanical system in their new investment is something they’ll never have to worry about.
Residential and Commercial New Builds
Whether the project is a custom single-family home, a multi-unit residential development, a retail buildout, or a commercial office space, the fundamentals remain the same. Right-sized equipment, well-designed distribution, quality installation, and thorough commissioning. The specifics change with each project, of course. Commercial rooftop units, variable refrigerant flow systems, zoned residential heat pumps, dual-fuel hybrid setups, and ductless mini-splits all have their place, and we’re comfortable designing and installing every option.
Even after the certificate of occupancy is signed, we don’t disappear. We’re a local HVAC company that takes pride in doing the job right, and we stay accessible to the property owners we’ve served. Our technicians show up on time, treat your project with respect, and never push unnecessary upgrades. And when something unexpected happens, our 24 hour emergency service means there’s always someone ready to help. Reach out to Mel's Heat & Air Inc. to discuss your upcoming new construction project, and we’ll show you what doing it right looks like.
